Note: Branch lines should be sized for velocity under 20 ft/s to prevent water hammer and noise. NFPA 13 allows Schedule 10 or lighter wall for sprinkler systems. Always include fitting equivalent lengths in total pipe length.

Hazen-Williams Formula:
p = (4.52 × Q^1.85) / (C^1.85 × d^4.87) psi/ft
Velocity = 0.4085 × Q / d^2
where Q = flow (gpm), C = roughness coefficient, d = pipe ID (in)
C values: Steel=120, Copper=140, CPVC=150
