CO2 Suppression System Sizing
Calculate carbon dioxide fire suppression requirements per NFPA 12. CO2 systems are used for total flooding and local application in industrial settings.
NFPA 12 Design Concentrations
| Hazard Type | Min Concentration | Discharge Time |
|---|---|---|
| Surface Fire (A/B) | 34% | 1 minute |
| Deep-Seated Fire | 50% | 7 minutes |
| Electrical Equipment | 50% | 1 minute |
| Rotating Equipment | 34% | 1 minute |
Understanding CO2 Suppression Systems
Total Flooding
Total flooding systems fill the entire protected enclosure with CO2 to achieve the design concentration. The enclosure must be reasonably tight to maintain concentration during soak time.
Local Application
Local application systems discharge CO2 directly onto the hazard surface. Used for specific equipment or processes where total flooding is not practical.
