Note: Control areas are spaces within a building where hazardous materials may be stored, used, or handled in quantities not exceeding the MAQ. Each control area must be separated from adjacent control areas by 1-hour fire barriers. The number of control areas and MAQ percentage decrease on upper floors and below grade.

Grade Level (1st Floor): Max 4 control areas, 100% MAQ each
2nd Floor: Max 3 control areas, 75% MAQ each
3rd Floor: Max 2 control areas, 50% MAQ each
4th+ Floor: Max 2 control areas, 12.5% MAQ each
Below Grade 1: Max 1 control area, 75% MAQ
Below Grade 2+: Max 1 control area, 50% MAQ
Adjusted MAQ = Base MAQ x Floor Percentage
Total Allowable = Adjusted MAQ x Number of Control Areas
