Fire-Rated Assembly Types
Fire Walls
Structural walls that divide a building into separate structures. Must extend from foundation to roof and maintain integrity if either side collapses.
Fire Barriers
Interior walls that separate fire areas, occupancies, or protect exits. Not required to be structural but must extend to rated deck above.
Fire Partitions
Lighter-duty separations for corridor walls and dwelling unit separations. May terminate at ceiling in some conditions.
