Sprinkler Spacing Calculator
Calculate sprinkler head spacing and coverage per NFPA 13 requirements.
NFPA 13 Quick Reference
| Hazard | Max Area | Density | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light | 225 sq ft | 0.10 gpm/sf | 30 min |
| OH-1 | 130 sq ft | 0.15 gpm/sf | 60 min |
| OH-2 | 130 sq ft | 0.20 gpm/sf | 60 min |
| EH-1 | 100 sq ft | 0.30 gpm/sf | 90 min |
| EH-2 | 100 sq ft | 0.40 gpm/sf | 120 min |
Understanding Sprinkler Spacing
Coverage Area
The maximum area a single sprinkler can protect is determined by the hazard classification. Light hazard allows 225 sq ft maximum, while extra hazard is limited to 100 sq ft per head.
Spacing Limits
Maximum distance between sprinklers (S) is typically 15 ft for standard spray sprinklers. Distance to walls should be half of S, but not less than 4 inches.
